Deleting your Kefli library.
Kefli has no accounts to close: your library is tied to a key on your phone. Deleting it removes your library from all your devices and from Kefli's server, and asks every backup server to delete its copies.
Last updated 9 October 2026 · Kefli for Android (app.kefli)How to delete
- Open Kefli on your phone, and make sure it's online.
- Go to You, then choose Delete my data at the bottom.
- Read what will be deleted, type DELETE to confirm, and press Delete everything.
- Kefli shows each step as it goes. When it's done, it says Your data is deleted and starts fresh, as if just installed.
If Kefli can't reach its server, nothing is deleted, and it says so. Check your connection and try again.
What's deleted
Kefli deletes in this order, so your phone keeps the key the servers need to see until they're done:
- Kefli's server. Your saves and the encrypted text of every article are deleted, and your library is removed from the server.
- The backup servers. Kefli asks each server holding copies of your library to delete them.
- This phone. Your key, the copy Android keeps to restore it on a new phone, your library and every saved file are deleted.
Encrypted copies can remain in our server's own backups for up to eight weeks, until those backups expire. Nobody can read them without your key.
If you signed in with your nostr app
Kefli asks your nostr app to approve the deletion, and nothing is deleted unless you approve it there. Your nostr key itself stays in your nostr app; Kefli deletes your saves and its own data, and leaves everything else your key is used for alone.
What can't be promised
We don't run the backup servers, so we can ask them to delete your copies but can't make them. Anything a server keeps is encrypted, and only your recovery code could open it. Once you've deleted your data, destroy any copy of your recovery code you've kept, and nobody will be able to read it again.
If you use your nostr app, the same is true, with the key in your nostr app in place of the recovery code.
If you no longer have the app
Your library is tied to your key, not to a name or an email address, so we can't find it or prove it's yours from a message alone. To delete it, install Kefli again, choose to bring back an existing library with your recovery code, and then follow the steps above.
If you can't do that, write to privacy@kefli.app and we'll help. Never send anyone your recovery code. If it's lost, nobody can read your library: without the key, every copy of it is unreadable.
